During the eighteenth century, the building served as the residence of the French ambassadors and the stage for the grand events of Savoyard aristocracy. In 1771, its rooms hosted the celebrations for the marriage of Maria Giuseppina of Savoy to the future King of France Louis XVIII, offered by the ambassador who resided in the palazzo.
During the nineteenth century, it became the salon where moderate Piedmontese liberals charted the course of Italian Unification, home to the Whist Club founded by Camillo Benso di Cavour, and the seat of the Accademia Filarmonica di Torino.

In the heart of Turin, overlooking Via Lagrange and Piazza San Carlo, stands Palazzo Solaro del Borgo: a jewel of Savoyard architecture that has spanned three centuries of history, hosting ambassadors, musicians, and statesmen of the Risorgimento.
Built between 1644 and 1656 to a design by Carlo di Castellamonte for the Marquis Harvard de Senantes, it was transformed in 1753 by the great architect Benedetto Alfieri. The palazzo still preserves some of the rare intact Rococo interiors remaining in Turin: the gallery and the octagonal drawing room bearing his signature are tangible proof of what it meant, in the eighteenth century, to live according to the Savoyard taste.
